Serge LeClerc was the featured conference speaker at our annual New Life Prison Ministry conference.Besides sharing his dramatic testimony in the evening, he gave two seminars in the afternoon entitled “What is it like in prison and how can we be more effective volunteers?”, and “Youth today, and how we can minister to them”.

Although I have been involved in prison ministry for more than 22 years, I personally learned a lot from these two seminars.  Many of us especially appreciated Serge’s frankness, for example, when he called sin exactly what it is: sin, and that it is a choice.  He gave us new tools for working with inmates, ex-offenders, and youth.  “Don’t make excuses for yourself based on your past.  Move on!”

One conference participant, who is in the middle of major financial difficulties told me a few days later that Serge’s  testimony was an incredible help and inspiration to her, and really helped put things back into proper perspective.

Many teens attended and were greatly impacted, and several expressed much appreciation for the opportunity to hear Serge.  Many asked for a copy of his testimony, which we videotaped.

Since the video was professionally produced, we are planning to use Serge’s testimony, which included a strong gospel message, in prisons across Canada! 

During my interactions with Serge, both before our conference, and during his time with us, I saw a  man of God, forgiven by God, shaped by God, mightily used by God, and now involved in God’s service, all done in an incredible spirit of humility and servanthood.  Raised from the depths to God be the Glory!
